Turath Centre: programmes and training workshops highlighting Emirati culture and heritage

The ‘Turath Centre for Traditional Handicrafts,’ the educational arm of Al Shindagha Museum, the UAE’s largest heritage museum, hosts diverse educational programmes and training workshops suitable for all age groups. These initiatives allow participants to delve into the intricacies and expertise of numerous traditional Emirati handicrafts, including: Al Talli craft, Al Khoos weaving, Burqa sewing, silversmithing, clothes sewing, Dukhoon-making, Gargoor-making, Rope-making, and more.

The goal is to introduce the upcoming generations to the nature of these crafts, imparting the necessary experiences, skills, and knowledge to understand and appreciate traditional crafts, their methods, types, and their significance in the community’s collective memory.

Through this series, the centre aims to academically showcase Emirati traditions, heritage, and culture by emphasising the importance of producing traditional products and handicrafts while also investing in the talents of the youth, discovering and encouraging them to develop their abilities in these fields. This contributes to the preservation and safeguarding of the Emirati heritage and national identity.
